Rev. Dr. Marcus M. Gaut, RN
I was born in Stuttgart, Germany to Army parents and raised in Northwest Louisiana. I am married and blessed to be a parent of three children and two grandchildren. I am currently of resident of Hattiesburg, MS where I serve as a United Methodist pastor and nurse educator.
I am a member of the Health Ministries Association because I believe in the unified diversity of gifts offered by many to serve the health needs of faith communities and the cultures and contexts in which they are found. I believe that the Health Ministries Association’s accommodation and resourcing of individuals and groups from different disciplines and faith traditions is the type of work that best serves the world.
Cari Moodie BSN, RN
I am a member of HMA because it is the professional organization for Faith Community Nurses as well as a membership organization representing and supporting Health Ministers.
I started my faith community nursing journey as a member of the Health Ministry at my church in 2012. It was led by faith community nurses in partnership with health ministers.
I feel that the Health Ministry is at its best working in collaboration with faith community nurses and health ministers serving our community being the hands and feet of Jesus.
Frances Hawkins MN,RN-BC
It is with esteemed gratitude that I share my honor as a member of HMA: I have been a Faith Community Nurse in New Orleans , LA for 22 years. This has afforded me the opportunity to share expertise in Nursing by supporting, educating and sharing resources with the faith based community. Engaging the community, people of faith and individuals with needs to the benefits of integrating faith and health in communities has been a passionate journey.
Ministering in this area of Nursing as a specialty has been rewarding and inspirational. In calling it a job is truly under rating the scope and its benefits. It is amazing to have a national organization as the Health Ministries Association whose focus is to promote effective leaders to create healthier communities by integrating faith and health. Just knowing the faith community has always been the healing place just as Jesus journeyed.
HMAs collaborative effort between various faith traditions focuses on core concepts of spiritual formation. This has been a blessing which has enhanced my spiritual growth, sociocultural awareness and served as a resource for interprofessional collaboration on a higher platform.
