The Board of Directors of Health Ministries Association (HMA) is pleased to announce our first-ever Executive Director, Ms. Julie Ruchniewicz, BSN, RN.

This new Executive Director position is an exciting step forward in the growth of HMA, and we are confident in the experience and passion Julie brings to the role.

Ms. Ruchniewicz has been an Infant Special Care Unit contract nurse for 36 years and a Faith Community Nurse in a local congregation for 11 years, both in Evanston, IL.  In addition, she has served in leadership positions in her own parish and works as an educational consultant.

Julie looks forward to sharing the diverse skills she has developed in her varied roles.  High among her gifts are her interpersonal skills: her genuine desire to listen, to insure that all people are heard, to honor differences, to help people find common ground to move forward.  In leading the 900-member women’s group of her parish, she oversaw their fund-raising effort which netted $150,000.  She has participated in church strategic planning, program development, and implemented a congregational emergency operations plan that impacts more than 1,ooo people.  She partners closely with the counseling center based in the church she serves as FCN, gaining a strong sense of community health.  In all her capacities of service, Julie enjoys working with and bringing together various people to enhance health, be they clergy, volunteers, students, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, congregants, patients’ families, and others with whom she interacts.

Julie’s driving motivation is what also drives HMA: “to encourage, support and empower leaders in the integration of faith and health in their local communities.”  As a member of HMA, she has “always come back refreshed and inspired to be better in my job and in life” by attending our conferences.  She’s excited about stepping into this new role and helping HMA build even more on our empowering and inspiring leaders in promoting whole-person and community health.

We welcome Julie!  She looks forward to getting to know HMA members as her work with us progresses.  Feel free to reach out to her at
