White Paper: Opioid Use, Misuse, and Overdose in Women
Click here to read or download.
This White Paper was developed as part of an initiative supported by OWH to examine the prevention, treatment, and recovery issues for women who misuse, have use disorders, and/or overdose on opioids. The paper was developed with the goal of ensuring that all stakeholders attending a September 2016 HHS OWH national meeting started from a shared level of understanding of how the unique aspects of the opioid epidemic impact women across age, race, geography, and income levels. To develop this report, we conducted a review of the literature focused on topics around opioid use disorders and women, as well as consulted with subject matter experts within and outside HHS.
