Food poisoning or foodborne illness, is a serious threat to public health in the U.S. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in fact, estimate that 48 million people, the equivalent of one in six Americans, get food poisoning each year, resulting in roughly 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths. Clearly, food safety is important for everyone — but it is especially important for individuals who are more susceptible to foodborne illness because of age, pregnancy, organ transplants or illnesses like diabetes, cancer, and HIV/AIDS…
